Below is a simple explanation of just the basics. We’ll only talk about two of the IRS computer systems, and call them Computer A and Computer B.

Electronic (also known as e-filed) forms and taxes will be due Tuesday September 3rd, 2013.
Paper forms and taxes must be postmarked Saturday August 31st, 2013.
The IRS has canceled the Scheduled shut down originally Scheduled for Monday July 22. The IRS will be open, issuing Stamped Schedule 1’s and answering phones.
